Covering 6,600 acres of undeveloped country in the Santa Monica Mountains, this park provides great hiking opportunities. Some of the species frequently encountered here are squirrels, rabbits, hawks, mule deer, bobcat and golden eagles. The Malibu Creek State Park has served as the filming site for the classic science fiction film Planet of the Apes, as well as the television smash hit M.A.S.H. The park has picnic areas, restrooms and showers, but there is no food sold within the park. Overnight camping for trailers is allowed during some parts of the year.
