Rich, intricate and beautiful are the words that immediately come to mind when you first lay eyes on the Church of St Mary the Virgin at Nottingham. As the city's oldest religious foundation and one of its largest churches, St. Mary's has rightfully been designated a Grade I listed building in recognition of not only its architectural beauty, but also its long standing history. The construction of the existing building of St. Mary's began in 1377 and was built over the next few years, although the original church is believed to have existed since Saxon times. Replete with exquisite architectural details and a variety of fine fixtures, the church is a truly stunning sight. As a place of worship, the church aims to create an atmosphere of tolerance and genuine acceptance.
