The city of Venice is composed of small islands separated by canals and is divided into six districts known as sestieri. Cannaregio is one such district and boasts of a considerable area and the largest population in the city. It is dotted by medieval architectural structures, a bridge and beautiful walkways along the Grand Canal. Though historically a bustling business and trade district, today it is largely composed of residential complexes. It is dotted by boutiques, cafés and restaurants, some of which are not well-known to the tourist but worth discovering. It also houses numerous churches and important landmarks such as the Ponte delle Guglie bridge, the Baroque palace Palazzo Labia, Museo Wagner, which is the house of Richard Wagner, the German composer, and Il Ghetto, a historically significant area. As the major railway station Venezia Santa Lucia is present in this district, it is also important from the transportation point of view.
