Heidelberg Altstadt

Uniquely placed in the Neckar river valley, Heidelberg's Old Town and historic center has a lot to offer visitors. Making a day trip to walk around this fascinating neighborhood well worth it. Among some of the most popular places are the Haupstrasse, where you'll find plenty of shops for retail therapy, the old Kornmarkt, Town Hall, the old bridge and of course, the main attraction, Heidelberg Castle, a beautiful example of Renaissance architecture. You'll be transported back in time as you wander through the narrow streets, lovely squares and houses with their distinctive architecture. A number of festivals are held in the area, like the Schlossfestspiele and the city is completely transformed by the festivities.
