Central Library was built to the designs of Cullen, Lochhead and Brown, a reputed Scottish firm who won the project through a competition. A site on Queen Street was chosen to build a new art gallery and library in the year 1908. Constructed in arresting Edwardian Baroque architectural style, the library building comprises two floors and is built with red brick. It features striped piers and intricate stone work. Stained glass windows had been commissioned in 2011 as a part of the library's centenary celebrations. Central Library now remains a Grade II listed edifice and a prominent attraction in Blackpool.
