Constructed in the 1960s, Verdun Memorial honors the martyrs who fought in Battle of Verdun during the early 1900s. The memorial was commissioned by Maurice Genevoix and is found on the site of the battle in close proximity to the the ravaged settlement of Fleury-devant-Douaumont. It also remembers the civilians who were killed during the war. The memorial also displays exhibits including German and French war artillery including machine guns, rifles and military uniforms.
