In addition to being Rome's main railway station and transit hub, Stazione Termini offers visitors a wide variety of bars, restaurants and shops. This is where Lines A and B of the metro cross, and many shuttles and buses drop of and pick up here as well. The Leonardo Express runs between the station and Fiumicino Airport every 30 minutes and there are multiple car rental agencies located here. It was first built in 1867 upon the wish of Pope Pius IX, when it was baptized "Termini" because of its proximity to the Thermae di Diocleziano (Diocletian's Baths). In 1939, during the Fascist period, it was demolished and rebuilt on the design of Mazzoni.
