Strumpshaw Hall Steam Museum

The Strumpshaw Hall Steam Museum is home to what is believed to be the largest private collection of steam engines in the UK. The collection includes tractors, engines, Marshalls, locomotives, rollers, wagons and harvesters all belonging to the past century or before. It is a family owned museum which was opened in 1954 by the grandfather of the current supervisor. It is open only on Sundays and bank holidays between April and October but out of season visits are welcome if booked in advance. The museum holds an annual rally when most of the vintage vehicles in the collection are taken for a ride in the adjoining farm. It is perhaps one of the few museums which is dog friendly provided that they are kept on leashes. There is a gift shop where one can buy souvenirs and mementos and a small cafe selling refreshments like tea, coffee, cakes, sandwiches and pastries.
