During medieval times, there were many ways adopted to protect a piece of land or town and one such way was to erect walls surrounding the place and a perfect example of this is the City walls of Nuremberg. Established around the township of Nuremberg, this wall is 5 kilometers (3.10686 miles) long and is still considered very important for the town. Constructed in the 12th century, the protection system is the perfect example of weir systems in Europe.
