Covering an area of 78 acres (31.56 hectares), Farmleigh was bought in 1999 by the Office of Public Works for the Irish government. The state house was designed as a luxurious abode for guests and dignitaries visiting Ireland - a striking reminder of its golden age, the Edwardian era. This was the time when rich industrialists took over the reins of building sprawling mansions from landowners. The sprawling grounds of Farmleigh features a striking collection of Edwardian and Victorian elements including sunken gardens, beautiful plants, and lakeside walks.
