Ocean Drive is a scenic driveway situated along the Atlantic Ocean, in the southernmost part of the city. This undulating coastal road stretches through 10 miles (16.09 kilometers) along rocky shores, lush green patches and one of Newport's most exclusive residential areas. The path is characterized by gentle slopes over sand dunes and swiftly blowing breezes. The who's who of the city reside here in magnificent manor houses that are as breathtaking to view as the natural scenery itself. These mansions are occupied by millionaires and exhibit historic architectural styles of the 19th Century. The surrounding area, known as Ocean Drive Historic District, is registered as a National Historic Landmark District.
