Dating back to the 14th Century, the Hoensbroek Castle is one of the oldest and most well-preserved historic structures in the Netherlands and a popular tourist attraction as well. Built for Sir Herman Hoen, the lord of Hoensbroek, it was used as a residential mansion by various noble families, knights, counts and viscounts until being turned into a history and educative museum in the 1980s. Today, the large historical complex is open to visitors who can tour the high towers, beautiful grounds, grand ballrooms, deep dungeons and over 40 medieval style chambers. It is a buzzing cultural center of the city with many exhibitions, workshops, medieval enactments and other such events regularly hosted here. The grounds and halls are also available on rent for functions such as weddings, birthdays, dinners and concerts served by the castle's very own culinary team in a charming historical atmosphere, all to make sure you have an authentic medieval experience!
