Lake Okeechobee, Lake Okeechobee, FL, United States
Florida’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Okeechobee is also the eighth largest natural freshwater lake in the country. Considering the importance of its freshwater, fishing is a major activity here. Visitors have the opportunity to try their hands, hooks, and nets at fishing. Catfish, blue gills, and speckled perch are few of the common catches along with the popular largemouth bass. Apart from fishing, hiking and biking are other options to enjoy along the the Florida National Scenic Trail at Lake Okeechobee. It offers a chance to spot wildlife at Lake Okeechobee. Along with turkey, bobcats, and alligators, birds like American bald eagle and snail kites can be seen here. The Okeechobee Sanctuary actively works towards protecting endangered species. Lake Okeechobee hosts hiking and camping events in November and an Annual Sugar Festival in April.
