The Whitney Plantation is a powerful museum about the history of slavery on this historic Louisiana plantation. Originally called Habitation Haydel, the plantation was founded by German immigrant Ambroise Heidel in 1725 and his family owned slaves that worked the land, including when it became a sugar plantation in the early 1800s. This museum focuses on the enslaved people who lived here before slavery was abolished. Visitors can see how the enslaved individuals lived through interesting exhibits, restored historical buildings, and first-hand slave narratives. Visitors can take a guided walking tour of the plantation that leaves every hour.
