Popularly called as Horse City, Verden is a picturesque town in Germany's Lower Saxony. Nestled on the banks of river Aller, it is noted for the gruesome mass killing of almost 4500 Saxons in the year 782. Dom zu Verden is a historic Lutheran house of worship is dedicated to Saints Cecilia and Mary. Its construction began in the 12th Century and was completed in the 15th Century. Domherrenhaus town hall and the Lutheran shrines of St. Andrew and St. John are other structures of architectural significance. Known for its horse racing competitions, Verden is home to a number of artworks dedicated to the powerful breed.
