TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
The first castle built in what is now Mont-de-Marsan was constructed in 1133 by Pierre de Lobaner, Viscount of Marsan to protect the area from those wishing to invade it. He chose the site because of its location at the confluence of two rivers. A town sprung up around the castle that has been there ever since. Visitors will find many things to keep them entertained while exploring the town, from the charming and very walk-able streets, to the many museums located in the area. While visiting, be sure to try one of the village's many specialties, including foie gras and armagnac.
