Prolific for her emotive, soft rock ballads, Sarah McLachlan is a Canadian singer/songwriter and musician from Halifax, Nova Scotia. With the release of her debut album Touch, in 1988, she first exposed her evocative mezzo-soprano voice and poignant songwriting to broad audiences, earning critical and commercial acclaim in the process. She rose to international attention with her 1997 record, Surfacing, which features the iconic piano rock hit "Angel." With an impressive catalog of records under her name, McLauchlan has solidified herself as a pop icon with each new release, including her 2014 LP, Shine On. In addition her work as an artist, through which she has been a steady activist for the advancement and fair treatment of women in entertainment, she is a devout philanthropist who has dedicated her time to various outreach programs, such as the Sarah McLachlan School of Music, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and numerous disaster relief campaigns.
