Terrance Simien is a zydeco singer/songwriter and musician who hails from one of the earliest documented Creole families to settle in the Mallet, Louisiana. With his first band, Terrance Simien & The Mallet Playboys, he became one of the few artists carrying indigenous zydeco roots music over into a new generation. Simien toured internationally with the outfit and eventually formed Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience, with whom he would go on to earn widespread critical acclaim. The band helped established a new Grammy category for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album, in 2007, and became the first act to take the award home in 2008 for the album Live! Worldwide.
