Digital Primitives is an alternative/nu-jazz trio comprised of members from New York City as well as Tel Aviv, Israel who are beginning to shine brightly as some of the genre's most celebrated up-and-coming musicians. Like the group's name implies, Digital Primitives looks for a new mode of expression in jazz that attempts to synthesize the ancient sounds and rhythms found in cultures throughout the world with the forward looking musical ideas of the digital age. The band's second album Hum, Crackle & Pop moves away from a macrocosmic look at the roots of world music and instead focuses on that of American folk music, and how the jazz of today is not only informed by such sounds of the past but also in how the two temporally disparate styles of music can combine to create something distinctly original.
