Though James Murphy has been in the music industry for the better part of his life, he didn't receive widespread recognition from the independent music scene until he started releasing music with his LCD Soundsystem project in the early 2000s. By the time LCD released its first album, though, Murphy was somewhat of an elder statesman of the hip New York music scene. His lyrics of growing old and seeing youths redefine what's perceived as cool managed to resonate well with a listener base and LCD Soundsystem's three albums were all well received and lauded with critical praise. While Murphy decided to disband LCD Soundsystem in 2011, to concentrate on other musical endeavors, he can still be found playing DJ sets where his love of disco, funk and early electronic music are on full display.
