Centered around the prodigious banjo playing abilities of Bela Fleck, the Flecktones play a high-energy brand of bluegrass fusion that incorporates a number of elements plucked from other genres - such as jazz, folk and pop. Also featuring extremely talented bass guru Victor Wooten, a big draw of seeing the group play live is the opportunity to admire each player's masterful control of his instrument. Improvisation is a key factor in Bela Fleck and the Flecktones music, as banjo, guitars, drums and horns take turns soloing and playing off of one another. The band's success has been well-documented since it formed in 1988, evidenced by its in-demand live performances and its multiple Grammy award nominations .
