Canada-born and US-raised musician Devon Sproule is a folk singer/songwriter whose affinity for music led her to release two albums before her 20th birthday. Her life on the income-free commune she was born into solidified in her a lack of importance for money and a desire for communication that translate into her music. With zero regard for her commercial appeal, Sproule weaves intimate narratives into her lyrics and offers elements of jazz and traditional country into her Americana style. She released her debut album Devon, in 1999 at the age of 16 and her follow-up record Long Sleeve Story in 2001. Fully developed on her critically acclaimed 2003 album Upstate Songs, her sound captured widespread audiences with sweet melodies and understated instrumentation.
