Kapil Punj, known professionally as Kapil Sharma, is one of India's biggest comedians. He has been a part of India's burgeoning comedy scene since winning the TV show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007. He then went on to participate in shows such as Comedy Circus for six years and host season 6 of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa - the Indian version of Dancing with the Stars. His career and fame skyrocketed after the launch of his own show Comedy Nights with Kapil in 2013. Apart from his work as a comedian, Sharma has also starred in the films Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon and Firangi and produced the Punjabi film Son of Manjeet Singh. A vocal supporter of animal rights, he appeared in a PETA campaign to help raise awareness about the adoption of homeless stray animals. He was awarded the Indian of the Year Award at the 2013 CNN-IBN Indian of the Year Awards.
