Hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, Crossfade is an alternative rock/metal band that formed in 1999 under the name The Nothing. Fronted by lead vocalist Ed Sloan, the three-piece outfit adopted the name Crossfade shortly before releasing its self-titled debut album in 2004. After guitarist Tony Byroads left the band to pursue other projects, the two remaining members pushed forward to record and release a second album in 2006 titled Falling Away. Sloan recruited his long time friend and collaborator Les Hall to fill lead guitar responsibilities in a move that would determine Crossfade's future sound. The band's next release, the 2011 album We All Bleed, took on darker textures with more positive outcomes, spawning the band's first top 50 US single since the release of "Drown You Out" in 2006.
