Laurie Berkner is a musician and singer best known for the work she has done with her children's rock group, the Laurie Berkner Band. From New Jersey, Berkner spent her school years as a member of choirs, bands and musical theater. After working as a summer camp music counselor, she dedicated herself to children's music education at preschools and day cares around New York. When Berkner started her own band, called Lois Lane, in 1992, she struggled to write cohesive music so she turned to writing children's music. Her first performances as a children's musician were at birthday parties, where parents would encourage her to record her music. Berkner recorded her first album Whaddaya Think of That?, as a cassette in 1997. The following year she started her record company Two Tomato Records, under which she continues to release her albums. She received national attention with her 1999 appearance on FX's American Baby Show, and has since played high-profile venues such as the Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.
