One of the first all-female rap groups to emerge out of the burgeoning hip-hop scene of the 1980s, Salt N Pepa is a hip-hop trio from Queens, New York. that consists of Cheryl James, Sandra Denton and Deidra Roper, known as Salt, Pepa and DJ Spinderella, respectively. The trio emerged in the mid-1980s, signed with Next Plateau Records and dropped its debut LP, Hot, Cool & Vicious, in 1986. Throughout the next decade, Salt N Pepa released several hit singles and records, including 1990's Blacks' Magic, before disbanding in 2002, though the group didn't stay apart for long. After playing a reunion show in 2004, all three artists continued to get together on television and on stage until finally embarking the Salt N Pepa's Legends of Hip Hop Tour in 2011.
