Canadian rock band The Reason was formed in 2003 by lead singer Adam White and guitarist James Nelan. After outgrowing their punk rock band Sewing With Nancie, White and Nelan recruited Erik Mikalauskas on guitar, Cam Bordignon on drums and Sean Palmer on bass. Together they began writing songs for The Reason's first EP, Problems Associated With Running, which the band released later the same year. Before the band went on a North American tour in promotion of its first recording, Jeremy Widerman replaced Mikalauskas on guitar. The Reason's first full length album Ravenna, was realeased by Smallman Records in 2004 and demonstrated a refinement in the band's arrangements and harmonies. By 2008, multiple line-up changes left the band weary, but with the help of The Pixies producer Steven Haigler, The Reason released FOOLS the same year. The new album revealed a reinvented sound that stepped away from the band's usual post-hardcore music.
