The West Michigan Whitecaps is an American baseball team playing in the Midwest League of the Class Single-A minor league system. Founded in Comstock Park, Michigan in 1994, the team was originally linked to the MLB's Oakland Athletics before becoming affiliated with the Detroit Tigers in 1997. The team won its first Midwest League championship in 1996 and has seen MLB players such as Fernando Rodney, Brandon Inge, Omar Infante and Cody Ross pass through its franchise.
