Oakland-based Neurosis are the figureheads of the so-called "post-metal" movement. Their 1996 album Through Silver in Blood is widely regarded to be one of the most influential records of the genre. The band's music encompasses influences from hardcore, doom, Ambient and Industrial, and is absolutely crushing live. Neurosis's shows are accompanied by ominous visuals, whose creators have included Adam G. Kendall, Pete Inc. and Josh Graham. The band members all play in the more experimental and strange Tribes of Neurot, whose album Grace is meant to be played simultaneously with Neurosis's Times of Grace.
