The Rhode Island Rams represents the athletic programs and intercollegiate teams of the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, Rhode Island. The university maintains NCAA Division I standing and competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference and the Colonial Athletic Association. URI's men's basketball team enjoyed a period of fleeting but admirable success during the 1990s, making at as far as the Elite 8 in the NCAA March Madness Tournament in 1998. Other men's and women's teams supported by the university include football, baseball, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball and rowing.
