Audioslave was a supergroup that was comprised of members from Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden. Shortly after vocalist Zack De La Rocha left Rage Against the Machine, producer Rick Rubin managed to wrangle Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell to sing for the three instrumentalists who were in need of a frontman, thus forming the group in Los Angeles in 2001. With a sound that tastefully blends characteristic elements from both of the musicians' former bands, Audioslave would go on to release its eponymously-titled debut album in 2002 to mixed reviews from music critics, and although Audioslave toured frequently and released three LPs, by 2007 the group broke up and the members went on to reform and play with their old bands. Though the group reunited in 2017 to play a one-off show to protest Donald Trump's presidential inauguration, Cornell was found dead a few months later in a hotel room after a Soundgarden show in May.
