Desaparecidos is an indie rock project headed by chief Bright Eyes singer/songwriter Conor Oberst. The band formed in 2000 and showed a different side of Oberst, trading some of the more mopey and emo tendencies Bright Eyes was known for at the time for thrashy, pounding indie rock full of cathartic choruses and a passionately direct vocal style. 2001 saw the release of the band's only official release, entitled Read Music/Speak Spanish, as well as tours supporting the likes of Jimmy Eat World and The Promise Ring. Due to the huge popularity of Bright Eyes, however, Oberst was forced to give the project up in 2002 after realizing he couldn't effectively keep both groups afloat. In 2010, Desaparecidos reunited for a benefit show in Oberst's hometown of Omaha, NE marking the band's only concert in the decade after it disbanded.
