Traffic was an English band that was formed in 1967. Helmed by an assortment of impressive musicians like keyboardist Steve Winwood and guitarist Dave Mason, the band had trouble settling on a characteristic sound during its early years, trying to create a hybrid of Beatles-influenced pop and psychedelic rock. The group broke up in 1969, while Winwood worked with Eric Clapton during their Blind Faith project, but shortly got back together in 1970 and recorded the band's most well-received album, John Barleycorn Must Die. Racking up a good amount of acclaim gave Traffic a second-life, and although there was nearly always a constantly rotating cast of instrumentalists in the band, the group was able to keep momentum running for a few more years until 1974, when the group's remaining leaders decided to dissolve the band.
