OOIOO's music is best described as a musical language of its own, mixing pop, rock and experimental elements. The Japanese band is comprised of four female artists, led by drummer and singer Yoshimi P-We, who was also one of the founding members of the band Boredoms. After having released a steady steam of albums starting in 1998, the band released its seventh studio album, Gamel, in 2014. The title refers to the rustic, Javanese Gamelan sounds, which formed a large component of the songs on the album. With its dynamic performances, OOIOO is considered one of the most versatile groups in the underground scene. The band's live shows are always played with great vivacity and excitement, and its songs are known for their ambiguous meanings which are open to listener's interpretation.
