Jason Newsted is a bassist who is probably best known for his tenure playing with the legendary thrash metal band Metallica form 1986 to 2001. Since leaving the group, Newsted has served as bassist for a number of bands and musicians including Voivod and Ozzy Osbourne, in addition to launching his own solo endeavor, aptly dubbed Newsted. Having been bred in metal's cauldron for the entirety of his professional playing career, with his solo group, Newsted doesn't stray far from the formulaic hard rock structure. But with his band, the talented bassist is able to do something he hasn't been able to do with other groups he has played with--load the music with personal sincerity and arrange songs to nearly always revolve around his bass lines.
