Born in Oakland, Californian R&B singer Rayven Justice got his start in the hip-hop duo Justice Brothers, along with his brother Raymen. Circulating mixtapes around their high school, the brothers began to rise to attention, until 2010 when tragedy struck and Raymen fell victim to a senseless act of violence in the streets of Oakland. Gutted by the loss of his brother, and best friend, Rayven found himself in a dark place thinking about suicide. In the period that followed, he managed to pick himself up and continued to pursue the path to stardom that he and his brother had set out on. He released his first official mixtape Something About Rayven, in 2011, drawing the attention of label boss Kafani, who signed Justice to his Ice King Music imprint in 2012. Numerous collaborations with renowned artists generated high anticipation for his debut album I Have a Dream, which was released in 2014. With the video for "Slide Thru" spawning hundreds of thousands of views and the hits "Might As Well" and "Pull Up" being equally well-received, the album was highly successful. In 2014, Justice saw a long-cherished dream come true when he was asked to perform at the Oakland-based Summer Jam concert.
