Dunfermline Athletic is a Scottish football club that plies its trade in the second tier of Scotland's league system. The club was founded in 1885 and boasts a history of over 200 years, however it never really established itself as a top flight team. Its best run of form came in the 1960s when it won two Scottish Cups and were finalists of the the 1968–69 European Cup Winners' Cup. Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson also had a short stint as a player with this club.
