The original club from Watford in the county of Hertfordshire started play in 1881, and though the club has changed many times since then, there has always been a team in the town since that Victorian time. For the majority of its history, Watford remained in the lower tiers of English football until its rise to prominence in the 1982-83 season, when it was a runner-up to Liverpool. Watford plays at Vicarage Road and has done so since first taking the pitch in 1922. Luton Town is Watford’s main rival and when the ‘Hornets’ from Hertfordshire take on the ‘Hatters’ from Bedfordshire, there is nary a ticket to be found.
