The Brooklyn Nets are a professional basketball team and a member of the National Basketball Association. The Nets were founded in 1967 as the New Jersey Americans and were an original member of the American Basketball Association. Led by Julius "Dr. J" Erving, the Nets won 2 titles while in the ABA. The Nets joined the NBA in 1976 as part of the NBA-ABA merger. They moved to Brooklyn before the start of the 2012 season. They currently compete in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference.
