The Edmonton Oilers are a professional hockey team in the National Hockey League. The team is a member of the Northwest Division of the Western Conference. The Oilers played their first season in 1972 as a member of the World Hockey Association and joined the NHL in the 1979 merger. The Oilers are considered the "Team of the 80s," winning five Stanley Cup titles in the decade.
