Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

Best known for her 1982 hit song "I Love Rock and Roll," which was number one on the charts for eight weeks, Joan Jett holds an iconic status around the world. Initially beginning her career at the ripe age of 15 as front woman of the girl punk band The Runaways, which was influential in many countries and was considered bigger than the Beatles in Japan, Jett became a pioneer on the rock scene early on. After struggling to get her solo career off the ground once the Runaways broke up, Jett ended up starting her own record label, Blackheart Records, which released her aforementioned hit debut single. Since then Joan Jett has continued to be a presence on the international music scene. She began touring extensively again in 2006 with The Blackhearts, her backing band, and has recently helped produce and write a highly anticipated A-list film documenting The Runaways career.
