After impressing a record executive a New York night club with a memorable vocal performance, Whitney Houston managed to land an impressive recording contract that led to her eponymous 1985 debut album. The album had four number one singles on it and managed to secure Houston's spot in the 1980s cultural zeitgeist with memorable tunes like "Somebody for Me," "The Greatest Love of All" and "All at Once." Though Houston's musical prominence has since faded since her heyday during the Regan Era, she still continues to release studio polished material and tour fairly frequently. Sadly, Huston passed away at the age of 49 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in 2012.
