The Mikado, also known by its full name The Mikado, or, The Town of Titipu, is an English language comic opera by famed 19th century musical duo Gilbert and Sullivan. With music composed by Arthur Sullivan and its libretto written by W.S. Gilbert, The Mikado would go on to become one of the duo's most popular operas and the second longest running work for musical theater in history. With a story set exclusively in Japan, The Mikado capitalized on the British people's fascination with Japan and its culture.
