lolanthe is a comedic opera with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W.S. Gilbert, the seventh collaboration of the fourteen between Gilbert and Sullivan, that premiered at the Savoy Theater in London in 1882. Telling the story of a fairy and her influence on society and humans, Iolanthe has been praised for its impressive musical numbers and stage direction. Having been performed around the world nearly since its first showing, lolanthe has gone on to be regarded as one of the more well respected comedic operas to have ever been written.
