Born in Ceuta, Spain, Elsa Rovayo moved to Madrid at 15 with the hopes of becoming a professional flamenco dancer. After performing with many dance troupes for over a decade, Rovayo decided to try her hand at singing and found this to be much more appealing. Donning the pseudonym La Shica, the singer released a demo in 2008 full of quirky pop songs heavily influenced by canta flamenco as well as by contemporary female songwriters, like Feist and Erykah Badu. Since then, La Shica has developed a fan base enamored with her cinematic vocals, cabaret-esque style and characteristically shaven head.
