Xanadu is a musical comedy and adaptation of the 1980 film starring Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly. Created by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, the show follows Sonny, a young artist frustrated with his financial prospects, who returns to a stifling but lucrative job painting large-scale album covers for billboards. His muse comes to him in the form of Kira, an elusive young girl who inspires him to open his own club and mecca of music, art and nightlife. As the two fall in love, Sonny learns that Kira isn't a normal girl but a Olympian goddess brought down to earth to help him. A combination of mythology, music and the bright style of the 1980s, the Grecian-fairy tale hybrid premiered on Broadway in 2007 and has since been performed in theaters around the world.
