Country posturing and vocals full of faux-twang have made themselves staples of many indie artists and bands over recent years. And while this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it can definitely come across as a bit inauthentic at times. So, it's always refreshing when someone like Amy LaVere comes along, who with one song can easily convince you that she's the real deal. Born in Louisiana and now calling Texas home, the singer/songwriter writes music that drips with soul and recalls classic country artists as well as smokey, female jazz vocalists of the first half of the 20th Century. LaVere's stand-up bass playing carries many of her songs, but her band is completely up to snuff, fleshing her tunes out with tasteful arrangements. LaVere has appeared on several late night television shows in recent years, and was even awarded a chance to record a session at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee.
