While St. Anthony's Day is celebrated with equal pomp in all districts of Barcelona, the ones in Sant Andreu are undoubtedly the largest. In celebration of this day, fires are lit in the middle of streets, and processions include the townspeople beating tambourines and sticks. Bands, lyres and guitars accompany singing, and boys and girls are dressed in traditional native costumes. During the day, the blessing of the herd takes place at the altar of Saint Anthony. Admission is free. Food stands with local cuisine prepared for the occasion are available.
