The Scottish hard rock outfit Nazareth was getting proto headbangers in the 1970s all riled up with a handful of singles that got international attention. The band is known for heavy guitar riffs and searing vocals that create a sound like that of Deep Purple and occasionally even Black Sabbath. And, in classic 1970s style, Nazareth plays extended jams, which can circle right back around to a huge riff. The group disbanded in the 1980s and again in 1990s, but rejoined in 1999 for a reunion tour.
