James Arthur is a singer from North Yorkshire, England who first came to attention on the ninth season of The X Factor in 2012. After winning the competition, he released his debut single "Impossible," on Syco Music to critical and commercial acclaim. The single ushered in his self-titled debut album, rising to international attention for his infectious pop songwriting. After a string of controversies and public feuds, Arthur was dropped from Syco and he stepped out of the spot light. After a few successful festival gigs and a demo, he signed to Columbia Records and announced his sophomore LP. In 2016, he dropped Back from the Edge, resigned with Syco, and earned the affection of the British public once again.
